PEI’s BIO FOOD TECH was established in 1987 as the Food Technology Centre to provide technical support to the food processing industry in Prince Edward Island. Emergence is a virtual business incubator dedicated to assisting start-ups and growth stage companies in the bioscience and food sectors efficiently bring their products and services to market. Emergence clients benefit from access to business, technical, scientific and regulatory support services customized to meet their individual needs. This includes one-on-one and team-based mentorship; third-party consulting services; market research; legal, IP, insurance, tax and financial expertise from a network of professional service provider partners; and support accessing international networks and public and private funding and investment opportunities.

The National Research Council’s Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre located in Prince Edward Island helps clients to sustainably convert Canada’s natural resources into products. Natural Products Canada (NPC) originated with the idea that Canada could be a global leader in the multi-billion-dollar natural products sector. NPC is Canada’s Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research of natural products, funded by the National Centres of Excellence along with numerous private and public partners who share the belief in this untapped opportunity.
